About the role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Neurodiversity & Inclusion Specialist to join our team. As part of our overall strategy to improve the provision for learners with neurodiverse needs and disabilities, the post holder will support with the implementation of People Plus neurodiversity strategy. They must be knowledgeable of, and committed to, promoting inclusive practice and driving improvement and have a proven track record of improving neurodiverse learner outcomes.

The role will be key to implementing the neurodiversity strategy including ensuring the effective use of neurodiversity screening tools, fulfilling the duties laid out in the C16 schedule, providing practical support and strategy advice to Prison Education teams and delivering the neurodiversity continuous professional development programme for Inclusion Support Coordinators (ISC’s) and tutors.


This role covers prisons across the East of England and requires weekly site visits with one day working from home.

Key Responsibilities

  • To successfully deliver PeoplePlus’ neurodiversity and inclusion strategy in line with the C16 schedule across all prisons in a lot.
  • Work with staff to develop effective ways of reducing the barriers to learning through assessment of needs, monitoring of teaching quality and neurodiverse learner achievement.
  • To manage the provision for neurodiverse learners, including the development of appropriate resources, schemes of work, assessment and teaching and learning strategies.
  • To manage the very varied situations that arise in prisons and be able to support both Inclusion Support Coordinators, Tutors, and Education Managers with complex individual neurodiversity cases by recommending and supporting clear and agreed interventions.
  • To have accurate knowledge of the range of services/resources to meet the assessed neurodiverse and inclusion needs.

What we are looking for

You will need to demonstrate high ethical standards, take personal accountability for everything you do, and always want to be the best. A Teaching qualification is required for this position, along with Evidence of neurodiversity CPD. A solid working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and its practical application is also essential. For more details, please see the person specification.
