Helping service users into decent sustainable work

19 May 2026

Researchers from De Montfort University are running a series of workshops with third-sector organisations (TSOs) around the use of a job quality toolkit they have developed with the help of ERSA members. The toolkit seeks to support TSOs in their efforts to help services users in their journey towards decent sustainable employment. The toolkit provides a framework for thinking about the complex and multi-dimensional aspects of job quality. It helps support workers in their exchanges with users to explore what ‘good work’ means to individual users and examines how TSOs can help them avoid self-blame that can impede their employment journey. The framework considers how TSOs can draw on elements of best practice to improve the support they offer, recognising wider structural constraints and that TSOs have different starting points and capacity. A new policy brief summarises the activities used in the workshops to explore these issues.
