Enterprise Works Forum

19th November 2025

We are joined by Dr Marsha Wood from the University of Bath to talk about a recent report on self-employment and Universal Credit: ‘Going it alone: Experiences of self-employed Universal Credit claimants‘.

The 2025 report, authored by Dr Rita Griffiths and Dr Marsha Wood from the University of Bath, aims to help fill the evidence gap around the experiences of self-employed people on Universal Credit by drawing on interviews with claimants.

It provides recommendations for improving support and outcomes for self-employed people on Universal Credit, including: more tailored support for self-employed UC claimants; allowing work coaches greater flexibility; and easements for people with disabilities and health conditions.
