Work Choice is a specialist voluntary programme providing pre-employment and in-work support for people who have a disability.

Work Choice provision is a voluntary programme delivered by a range of employment support specialists from the private, voluntary and public sectors. The programme provides specialist support for those with a disability, impairment or health problem, who want to work 16 hours a week or more.

Work Choice is designed to help support participants towards sustained mainstream employment using a three stage strategy. This begins with an assessment followed by a personalised plan offering tailored support such as skills training to help the participant into work and is followed by medium and long-term support to overcome barriers an individual may face beginning and sustaining employment.

ERSA’s stance

ERSA works with government and providers to address operational issues as and when they arise. ERSA currently sits on a number of advisory boards which exist to share best practice on the delivery of Work Choice and to contribute to the formulation of future policy in this area. ERSA also works with members through its Disability Employment Forum to devise strategy and promote insight into the programme.
